FORMER AUDITOR GENERAL JOHN MORLU WARNS OF BACKLASH AMIDST SALARY WITHHOLDING SCANDAL IN LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Former Auditor General John Morlu has issued a stern warning to the Liberian government, specifically addressing President Joseph Boakai, about the potential backlash that may arise if the new Deputy Finance Minister, Anthony Myers, continues to withhold civil servants’ salaries. Civil Servants have not been paid for almost three months, one month from the George Weah administration and two from the new Joseph Boakai regime.

In a recent statement, Morlu expressed his concerns, emphasizing that the government’s actions in this matter could lead to dire consequences.

Morlu began by addressing President Boakai, referring to him as “Uncle Joe.” He conveyed a message to the President through the AG, apparently referring to the current Auditor General, stating that the Boakai government is on the verge of spoiling if the issue of withheld salaries persists.

Morlu then highlighted the role of Anthony Myers, who currently holds the position of Deputy Finance Minister. According to Morlu, Myers has been indefinitely withholding the payment of civil servants’ salaries, causing widespread dissatisfaction and complaints among the affected individuals.

The former Auditor General further expressed his disbelief at the situation, emphasizing the stark contrast between Myers’ current position and his previous activities. Morlu remarked that just yesterday, Myers was seen riding motorbikes, seemingly without any significant responsibilities. However, now, he is in charge of overseeing the payment of salaries and has allegedly caused a delay in the process.

Morlu concluded his statement by drawing a comparison to the past, specifically mentioning Samora Wolokollie, likely referring to former Liberian President George Weah’s deputy finance minister.

Despite any criticisms of Wolokollie, Morlu claimed that he never delayed the payment of salaries, contrasting this with the current situation under Myers.

The warning from John Morlu serves as a reminder to the Liberian government that withholding civil servants’ salaries can have severe consequences. It highlights the frustrations and concerns of the affected individuals and emphasizes the need for prompt resolution to avoid any potential backlash.
