ALEXANDER CUMMINGS DENOUNCES ANC AND LP COLLABORATION, REFLECTS ON LIBERIA’S FUTURE

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Alexander Cummings, the former presidential candidate and leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), has denounced the collaboration between his party and the Liberty Party (LP).

In his comprehensive message at the conclusion event of the Collaborating Political Parties Alliance on Tuesday, April 15, at the ANC Headquarters in Monrovia, Cummings expressed gratitude to the supporters of both parties and reflected on Liberia’s democratic journey.

Cummings expressed gratitude to the leaders, members, and supporters of both the ANC and LP for their trust and shared experiences. He also thanked the Liberian people for welcoming them into their lives and homes, highlighting their calls for change and improved living conditions.

Acknowledging President Boakai’s election and former President Weah’s concession, Cummings congratulated them for their contributions to Liberia’s democracy. He emphasized the importance of responsible leadership and dutiful citizenship in strengthening the nation’s democratic foundation

He said: “While the ANC did not achieve the electoral success they had hoped for, Cummings highlighted that they remained true to their principles. He emphasized the importance of honorable politics, promising to work with all Liberians across tribal, religious, gender, and party lines for inclusive development.”

Reflecting on the challenges faced during their collaboration, Cummings acknowledged conflicting interests and treachery. However, he reiterated their commitment to keeping promises made to the Liberian people and daring to be different in a political landscape often marked by divisiveness.

Cummings outlined several critical areas needing attention in Liberia, including reforming the justice system, combating corruption, addressing the drug epidemic, improving education and healthcare, and ensuring equitable benefits from natural resources. He called for a shift towards law-abiding behavior, mutual respect, and care for one another.

As Liberia marks its 177th year of independence, Cummings expressed hope for a brighter future. He urged prioritizing national interest over self-interest and uniting the nation rather than dividing it. Despite the conclusion of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Cummings vowed to remain engaged, holding the government accountable and collaborating with all Liberians to pursue these hopes.

In closing, Cummings reminded Liberians that “we cannot keep doing the same things and expect different results.” He emphasized that Liberia deserves better and called on everyone to commit to positive change for the country’s future.
