AMB. RUFUS NEUFVILLE OFFERS RECOMMENDATIONS TO NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISOR KOFI WOODS

Date:

LIBERIA – Amb. Rufus Neufville, former Chief of Protocol of Liberia, has written a letter to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s National Security Advisor, Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods, praising his appointment and offering insights into Liberia’s intricate political environment.

In his letter, Neufville applauded Woods for his comprehensive understanding of national security, noting that it encompasses more than just military and border protection; it also includes all aspects of governance. He emphasized Woods’ deep insights into Liberia’s history, particularly significant events and protests, as being crucial to President Boakai’s agenda.

Acknowledging the government’s challenges in areas like electricity, water, health, education, and economic recovery, Neufville emphasized that time constraints shouldn’t be an excuse to overlook critical issues that could jeopardize peace and stability.

Amb. Neufville then provided the following recommendations:

  1. Revisit the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) signed in Ghana, underscoring its role in ensuring lasting peace and inclusive governance.
  2. Diversify political appointments to prevent uniting the opposition against the government.
  3. Review the Assets Recovery Team’s operations to ensure they comply with constitutional protections for life, liberty, and property.
  4. Advise President Boakai on political shifts and stress the importance of strategic realignment.
  5. Organize strategic meetings with stakeholders beyond the “RESCUE MISSION” to reduce political tensions and attract investors.
  6. Implement swift punishment for public corruption to enhance deterrence.
  7. Dismiss government officials with unexplained wealth to prevent public discontent.
  8. Generate jobs for 25,000 semi-skilled and unskilled young individuals to instill hope and deter manipulation by opponents.
  9. Restrict the ambitions of overly eager young individuals aiming to misuse public office for personal gain.

Amb. Neufville concluded by urging Atty. Samuel Kofi Woods to address challenging issues and work towards making President Boakai a leader for all Liberians, irrespective of political affiliation, tribe, religion, or social status. He highlighted the opportunity for Woods to leave a lasting positive impact on Liberia under President Boakai’s leadership.
