“OPPOSITION PARTIES ARE TALKING TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN CASE OF SECOND ROUND PRESIDENTIAL BALLOTS IN 2023”

Date:

“We are talking to Alex Cummings, Aloysius Toe,  Daniel Nattarn, Benoni Urey, and Nyonblee Karngar, and just about any opposition figure to stay connected. Unofficially we are talking amongst ourselves. On a friendly basis we are talking to people from other opposition parties”, Unity Party Chairman, The Rev. Luthur Tarpeh who’s visiting the United States, told Spoon Talk on Spoon FM Radio over the weekend.

Originally, Tarpeh said talks with the opposition were basically on a friendly basis but somersaulted later when he was pushed panelists on the show.

He indicated that: “We need each other. They need us, we need them. There is a possibility of a roundoff. In the second round, we the opposition need to support the opposition, instead of supporting George Weah.”

However, Rev. Tarpeh said if there will be any collaboration with any political group, Unity Party as the biggest party will have to put forth the presidential candidate.

Rev. Tarpeh boasted that there are no politicians in the country that frightens President George Weah more than Ambassador Joseph Boakai.

The only person that the Liberian people know and trust that can easily beat Weah is Boakai, he pointed out.

According to Rev. Tarpeh, conversations with other political parties, are intended to speak with one voice in our collaboration, he noted.

In case there is a second-round ballot, we the opposition must galvanize our forces, adding that “We want to make Weah a one-term president.

He emphasized: “If we are going to collaborate with any party, Boakai will be on the ticket as the Head.”

Rev. Tarpeh: “Our country is heading in the wrong direction under Weah. In the second round of balloting, if there will be one, we are not going to spend a day under Weah. We will have some Conversations and when we get to a point of agreement, we will insist that Boakai will be the face of the ticket.”

“We will go beyond just friendly conversations, hoping that some agreement will be reached and documents will be signed to ensure that opposition parties support each other in the case of a second round ballot, according to the Unity Party Chairman.
