CESS TO LAUNCH ANTI-TERRORISM PROJECT IN MANO RIVER UNION COUNTRIES

Date:

MONROVIA – The Center for Economic Crimes and Security Studies (CESS) is set to launch a project aimed at creating awareness against terrorism and violent extremism in the Mano River Union countries. The launch is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at the University of Liberia’s Capitol Hill Campus in Monrovia.

The Mano River Union countries, which include Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ivory Coast, will benefit from this initiative, which seeks to engage diplomatic missions in Liberia, government anti-graft institutions, civil society organizations, and the student community, among others.

Her Excellency Madam Josephine Nkrumah, the ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, will serve as the Chief Launcher of the project. The project aligns with the political declaration and regional action plan against terrorism adopted by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government during an extraordinary meeting held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 14, 2019.

In support of this initiative, the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) has provided assistance to two civil society groups to carry out sensitization and awareness campaigns on violent extremism and terrorism, as well as preventive measures. The Center for Economic Crimes and Security Studies (CESS) will lead this process in the Mano River Union region, in partnership with counterparts in Sierra Leone and Guinea.

The launch of this project marks a significant step in the efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism in the Mano River Union countries, demonstrating a collective commitment to promoting peace and security in the region.
