SENATORS NYONBLEE AND DILLON UNDER SCRUTINY: CALL TO REIMBURSE US$565,000

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Liberians are closely watching Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon to see if they will demonstrate transparency, accountability, and integrity by reimbursing the funds they received during the controversial Senate retreat held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. This retreat has been widely criticized as one of the most contentious government events in recent memory.

Prominent activist Martin Kollie, known for exposing financial improprieties, has issued a strong statement demanding that the senators repay their portion of the funds. In his statement titled, “One Senator Is On His Way To The CBL To REIMBURSE The People’s Money, The Twenty-Nine Others MUST Follow. Open Letter To Senate Pro-Temp Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence and Senator Abe Darius Dillon,” Kollie calls for immediate action.

Kollie’s statement reads, “Please pay back your portion of the people’s money. It has been established that you shared and siphoned US$565,000 for a so-called retreat and constituency visit. We, the people, also expect a comprehensive financial report of all transactions. Delaying to pay back will lead to future embarrassment. The people will come for their money through a mass peaceful protest on Capitol Hill. It is sad to say the least that you’ve woefully betrayed public confidence by robbing our people of hundreds of thousands while they rot in poverty. Is this the change you promised—to rescue your pockets and fatten your bank accounts? You have succeeded in using the national budget as a cash cow. We demand accountability, transparency, and openness. Rescue means rescue and not rascal. Our people deserve better.”

The Senate retreat, which allegedly involved the misappropriation of substantial public funds, has triggered widespread public outrage. Kollie’s call for reimbursement and accountability has intensified the scrutiny on Senators Karnga-Lawrence and Dillon, putting pressure on them to address the allegations and restore public trust.

As the situation unfolds, Liberians await the senators’ response and actions, hoping for a commitment to ethical governance and a pledge to rectify the misuse of public resources.
