MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ERECTS STANDARD HIGH SCHOOL IN BARROBO DISTRICT

Date:

By Aaron B. Nemah

MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA – For the first time in Barrobo District #2, Maryland County, the Ministry of Education has erected a modern school structure. The official dedication ceremony of the new high school and early childhood development (ECD) facility was recently held, marking a significant milestone for the community. The new structure includes approximately fifteen classrooms, offices, and modern latrines with bathrooms.

The second phase of the dedication ceremony was held in District #2, Barrobo, attended by local chiefs, women’s groups, youth of Barrobo, the District Education Officer (DEO) David Dweh, Maryland County Education Officer Emmanuel Toe, and members of the disabled community.

This project follows a recent tour by Education Minister Jarsor Jallah, who promised to construct and improve learning conditions to empower students in Liberia. The construction began in 2022 during the administration of former President George Manneh Weah and was completed in 2024 under President Joseph Boakai’s administration.

During the presentation of the school building, CEO Emmanuel Toe praised ADDRA, the World Bank, and the Ministry of Education, led by Minister Jarsor Jallah, for their tremendous efforts in fostering quality education. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities to remote parts of Liberia, highlighting its importance in every society. Toe also vowed that the local Ministry of Education office would support school authorities to enhance the quality of education, noting that the Education Minister is actively undertaking numerous projects in the county.

Receiving the new facility, DEO David Dweh applauded Minister Jarsor Jallah and international partners for this significant initiative. Dweh stated that the gesture is timely and will be used for its intended purpose. “Barrobo Education District #2 has fifteen schools. Since I was assigned here, we have not seen such a school building. We are glad to see President Boakai constructing high schools in Liberia,” he stressed.

Providing an estimate of the project, Dweh mentioned that the new high school and ECD facility is valued at seventy-eight million United States dollars ($78 million). He pledged his support for cooperating with the Ministry of Education to build students’ learning capacity and to ensure the inclusiveness of all citizens.
