PUL ESTABLISHES TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP TO EVALUATE THE UNION’S CURRENT STATUS

Date:

MONROVIA – In compliance with the Constitution and good governance practices, the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has constituted a five-member committee, mandated to undertake a full assessment of the current position of the Union.

The Committee, officially known as the Technical Working Group on the Status of the PUL (TWGS-PUL), is to evaluate the fiscal, governance and financial standing of the PUL.

In constituting the Committee, PUL President Julius Kanubah said the goal of the Technical Working Group is to identify contingent assets and liabilities that his administration is inheriting from the most immediate past elected and unelected leaderships.

“The work of the Technical Working Group on the status of the PUL is not to conduct an audit but rather an exercise intended to enhance our understanding of the current institutional framework in the context of fiscal, governance, human resource capacity, the work environment and financial status of our Union,” Kanubah said.

The assessment, the President notes, encompasses a meticulous review of financial, non-financial, and human assets, short and long-term liability balances, net assets, and an evaluation of major revenue sources and expenditure items as well as contracts and the membership status of the PUL to professional journalism and integrity institutions.

In order to fully execute the assessment, the following respectable journalists, media and communication professionals have been appointed with immediate effect:

  1. Mr James M. Kpargoi, Chairman
  2. Ms Hannah Geterminah, Co-Chairperson
  3. Ms Magdalene F. Saah, Secretary
  4. Mr Garmondeh Wremongar Blojay Joe, II, Member, and
  5. Mr Christopher Yarwoe, Member

In appointing the five-member committee, PUL President Julius Kanubah, applauds them for wholeheartedly agreeing to undertake the task in the interest of the PUL and as a sign of restoring our Union, stressing that the Committee must at all times exercise independence and integrity in its work without interference.

The PUL President is asking the full cooperation of all past officials inclusive of the support staff to allow the Committee present a full picture of the current position of the PUL to the newly installed democratically elected leadership and, crucially the Membership.

The Technical Working Group on the Status of the PUL is to conduct the assessment and report to the PUL leadership within two weeks as of the date of this announcement. A profile of each member of the Technical Working Group is available.
