ANC’S CUMMINGS WANTS UNITED OPPOSITION IN TACKLING ISSUES AFFECTING LIBERIA

Date:

LIBERIA – The Political Leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress ( ANC), Mr. Alexander B. Cummins has again stressed the need for Opposition Political Parties and Civil Society groups to unite in confronting the issues affecting Liberia and Liberians.

Mr. Cummings said though the oppositions will have divided opinions on who becomes President, Vice President, and legislators, adding issues including the ongoing National Census described as a failure that needs consolidated efforts.

Addressing a news conference in Monrovia recently, the ANC flag bearer said the Census is marked by flaws as its officials are involved in “rampant stealing”. He also lashed at President George Weah for leaving the country for a long period of time and enjoying the country’s resources along with some officials of his government, while the ordinary Liberian People remained languishing in abject poverty. “Our people are suffering while President Weah is flying in private jets and sleeping in luxurious hotels at their expense” he noted.

He then called on the National Legislature, who are the direct representatives of the Liberian people to act in making sure that the Executive do the right thing in the interest of those they represent.

In reaction to calls for members of the opposition community not to politicize the ongoing National Population Census, Mr. Cummings said the oppositions are raising genuine issues that need to be addressed, adding that the outcome of the Census will decide which direction Liberia heads in when it comes to development among others.

At the same time, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings said the ANC is willing and prepared to meet with any opposition political party in the interest of the Liberian people, dispelling statements from many that the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) is no more. He noted that Alternative National Congress (ANC) and the Liberty Party (LP) are still in the CPP, despite the exodus of other parties, assuring Liberians that other political parties will also join the CPP.
