FAMILY PLEADS WITH LIBERIA’S INT’L PARTNERS FOR INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO ‘ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT’ AND MURDER AT FORMER CHIEF JUSTICE SCOTT’S HOME

By Olando Testimony Zeongar

MONROVIA – Family members of Cllr. Gloria Maya Musu-Scott, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, say they are craving the involvement of Liberia’s international partners in seeking justice for an alleged assassination attempt on the life of the former Chief Justice, in an incident that led to the gruesome murder of her daughter, Charloe Musu, on 22 February 2023, at their Brewerville residence.

In its second official statement released to the public so far following the fatal attack on the home of Cllr. Scott, the family, which emphasized that it suspects attempts on the part of some officials of government and state actors including police top-brass and ruling party (CDC) national chairman Mulbah Morlu to compromise the case, stated at the weekend that it craves the involvement of Liberia’s international partners to assist with an independent investigation into the matter to ensure that due process of law is attained into the murder of Charloe and the assault on the ex-Chief Justice’s home.

The family, which inferred that the case is at the moment being downplayed by relevant government agencies and actors charged with the responsibility to handle same, observed that this is not the only case that has been downplayed in the country.

“It can be recalled that there have been series of murders in our country where the proper investigations are yet to either be commenced or completed,” said the family, indicating, “This [is] why we enlist the help of the international community in these matters.”

According to the family, it has observed from series of statements from and /or by some officials of the CDC-led government and state actors being made in the public in attempts to either compromise what it described as the atrocious crime committed against the family or turn the public against the family.

The family specifically named Police Inspector General, Patrick Sudue; Deputy Inspector General of Police for Crime Services, Col. Prince B. Mulbah; and ruling party chairman Mulbah Morlu, as officials of government and a state actor, whose utterances regarding the ongoing investigation, indicate a motive to compromise the case and turned members of the public against the family.

The family pointed out that all of these are happening in spite of the fact that members of the family are undergoing pain and suffering as a result of the crime committed against the family by unknown persons, ranging from murder, aggravated assault and terroristic threats.

“It is important to note that the family after considering the public comments and actions of top government officials and state actors including the Chairman of the ruling coalition and knowing that they were in bad faith and not in the spirit and intent of taking into consideration the pain and hardship being undergone by the Musu family by the unknown murderer, the family decided that she is guided by lawyers in all subsequent interactions with the Police in this matter,” the family stressed.
