In an effort to promptly address the many challenges confronting people living with disabilities across the country, the Government of Liberia (GoL) through the National Commission on Disabilities (NCD), has begun the distribution of motorbikes to various counties’ coordinators.
Distribution of motorbikes to the counties’ coordinators kicked off at weekend, beginning in all five southeastern counties, namely; River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Grand Kru, and Maryland.
However, River Cess and Lofa Counties were added to the distribution list, bringing the numbers to seven counties.
Speaking during the distribution of the bike, the Executive Director of NCD, Madam Daintowon Domah Pay-Bayee, pointed out that the initiative is the government’s own way of empowering coordinators across the country so as to enable them to work more effectively and efficiently.
She lauded the coordinators for working in the interest of society by serving humanity over the years.
“On behalf of His Excellency, Ambassador George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, who has recognized your invaluable contribution to society with your workings with people living with disabilities, we want to present these motorbikes to you as a means of empowerment for you as you volunteer. This is intended for you to do your job smoothly in the best interest of the country across the various counties,” the NCD boss stated.
“Today we are glad to have River Gee, River Cess, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Sinoe, Lofa and Maryland Counties. This is the beginning and we will continue up to the 15 counties. We want to appreciate your efforts at the level of the counties. All we have to do is to unite with one voice and we will do better,” she added.
In response, the counties coordinators lauded the Liberian government through NCD for the great recognition.
This, according to them, will ensure greater productivity in the execution of their assigned task.
“We want to thank you so much for the recognition given us for the job that we do. We say please extend our warmest thanks and appreciation to our President for his farsightedness,” Daniel B. Nyenpam, Coordinator of River Gee lauded.
