“OUR MOST POTENT CHALLENGE IS TO ENSURE PRES. WEAH DOES NOT GET A SECOND TERM,” URGES POLITICAL COMMENTATOR

Date:

MONROVIA – A Liberian political commentator and journalist, Matthew Nyanplu is urging Liberians that the most potent challenge in 2023 is to ensure President George Weah does not get a second term. According to the Liberian journalist, every minister in the Weah government knows that there is currently no leadership in the country. See below Nyanplu’s statement…

Yesterday, the Unity Party Vice Presidential Candidate and incoming Vice President of Liberia, the Honorable Jeremiah Jeremiah Kpan Koung reached out to me and urge me to give him the benefit of the doubt and to earn my support.

He urged that our most potent challenge in 2023 is to ensure George Weah does not get a second term. Importantly, he said ministers in the Weah Government know that there is currently no leadership in the country.

I told him I appreciated the fact that he reached out to me and that my opposition to his candidacy has been based on principle and not person and that I have taken the side of the aggrieved party in these collaboration talks to ensure that fairness prevails.

I urge the Honorable Koung to reach out Senator Lawrence and the Liberty Party and all who have been with the Unity Party in these collaboration talks and our goal is to ensure that the opposition to Weah in 2023 is not further splintered.

The Honorable Koung did give me his word that he is reaching out to all parties to ensure that we remain together in our quest to prevent the carnage of a Weah second term.

So we agreed to remain together under the Unity Party umbrella and hold the team together.

In this vain, I put out this statement to our aggrieved collaboration colleagues to put the country above ourselves, especially Senator Lawrence whom we had hoped would be the Vice President on the UP-LP collaboration ticket, remain under the UP umbrella as myself would be doing.

I reckon that removing George Weah from power in 2023 remains our paramount objective.

The Honorable Koung and I agreed to work towards that goal in the spirit that his vice candidature and subsequent Vice Presidency of Liberia will dawn a new era of pragmatic leadership.

We agreed, and I have decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He will reach to others as he did with me so that our UP team will remain united, potent and formidable to remove Weah on the first ballot.

Together, we will remain.

I hereby rescind my decision to exit the UP camp in the spirit of collaboration and urge others who did so or are contemplating, to do same in the wider national interest, vote Weah out on the first ballot in 2023.

As we have been the advocate for the people of Liberia, even in the UP Government, we will remain so and even more so. Stay with JNB and JKK.
