MONROVIA – Alleged plan to mysteriously eliminate Unity Party standard-bearer, Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s assumption of office if he wins the presidential election is spawning concerns within the Unity Party. According to a source, who informed Smart News Liberia that the alleged plan by two Senators, Jeremiah Koung of Nimba County and Edwin Snowe of Bomi County is seriously being looked at by the party’s inner circle; and there are calls for a quick reaction.
Koung is the political leader of the Movement for Democratic Reconstruction (MDR); and was recently picked by Boakai as vice running-mate for October 10, 2023, presidential election. Koung’s selection was criticized by some opposition figures who based judgment on Koung’s closed ties with warlord and US-sanctioned, Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
However, the source also disclosed that Snowe is plopping around lots of dishonest cash to some stalwarts of UP to buy his way through to gain reacceptance into the party hierarchy.
It was reported recently that Snowe met Boakai to pledge support which the Senator categorically denied stating that his support for President George Manneh Weah’s second term bid remains unshakable and there is no iota of truth in the insinuation that he supports the presidential ambition of Mr. Boakai.
Also speaking of Snowe… Montserrado County District 10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah warned Amb. Boakai of Snowe’s ulterior motive… He stated during yesterday’s press conference that the Bomi County Senator is dangerous and corrupt, for which he is calling on the UP standard-bearer not to allow the Bomi County lawmaker to get close to him (Boakai) or the Unity Party.
“Senator Snowe is very corrupt and as such, Amb. Boakai must desist from doing business with him,” the tough-talking Yekeh stated.
Days ago, former Commissioner of Liberia’s Truth Reconciliation Commission (TRC), John H.T. Steward wrote an article, narrating the alleged plan also.
In the article, Steward stated that according to informed sources, shortly after the Unity Party standard-bearer, Boakai’s assumption of office, he will die either mysteriously or get killed in an accident that will see Koung succeeding him and later Koung will nominate Snowe as Vice President.
Steward further narrated that apparently, Snowe has a sense of foreboding that the Weah government will be booted out of office at the October 10 polls because of its dismal performance record characterized by massive looting of the country’s coffers, extra-judicial killings with impunity, gross disrespect and disregard for the rule of law and gross mismanagement of the country’s economy.

Apparently, Snowe has a sense of foreboding that the Weah government will be booted out of office at the October 10 polls because of its dismal performance record characterized by massive looting of the country’s coffers, extra-judicial killings with impunity, gross disrespect, and disregard for the rule of law and gross mismanagement of the country’s economy.
Snowe is fully aware that his jolly-jolly looting spree and happy-go-lucky flirtations with powerful officials will come to a disastrous end once George Weah loses the elections.
And he knows for sure that the “bloodhounds” will pursue him to account for his Kro-Kro Gee, Kukujumuku MoU that sold out the Western Cluster to predatory corporate interests and robbed the people of Bomi in broad daylight.
And to assure himself of a safe and soft landing he has according to reports wormed his way back into the UP fold and into the arms of an unsuspecting and a seemingly politically naïve Joseph Boakai.
Further, according to informed sources, Snowe is splashing around tons of illicitly acquired cash to buy his way through to gain reacceptance into the UP fold.
From the current outlook of things and with a mere 5 months to elections, what better time than now to jump ship. And he has done just that. Informed sources say that both Weah and Snowe had discussed the issue.
And Weah, being wary of rejection at the polls is now acutely aware that he will need protection of the kind he has provided to former President Sirleaf over the last six(6) years.
And so while others may interpret Snowe’s move as a betrayal, President Weah, according to sources see it as a great strategic move from which he stands to be an ultimate beneficiary.
According to analysts, Vice President Boakai has virtually signed his own Death Warrant with his choice of Jeremiah Koung as vice running mate hoping that will garner him massive support from vote-rich Nimba.
