IVORIAN NATIONAL ARRESTED IN MONROVIA FOR TRAFFICKING USD 117,000 WORTH OF ILLEGAL NARCOTICS

MONROVIA – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested Abu Keita, an Ivorian national, on charges of possession, sale, and distribution of illegal narcotics. Keita, who resides in the Sinkor area of Monrovia, was taken into custody on Friday, August 23, 2024, following a successful operation by the LDEA.

Keita was found in possession of a significant quantity of illegal drugs, including methamphetamine, locally known as “KUSH,” and heroin. The seized methamphetamine weighed 1.8 kilograms and has an estimated street value of USD 36,000 or LRD 6,840,000. The heroin, also weighing 1.8 kilograms, was valued at USD 81,000 or LRD 15,390,000. In total, the seized drugs had a combined weight of 3.6 kilograms and a street value of USD 117,000 or LRD 22,230,000.

The arrest of Keita is part of the LDEA’s ongoing efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in Liberia. The agency has intensified its operations across the country, focusing on disrupting the activities of drug traffickers and dismantling networks involved in the illegal narcotics trade. The LDEA’s efforts have been supported by increased cooperation from local communities and law enforcement agencies, who are working together to ensure that Liberia does not become a hub for drug trafficking in the region.

Keita is expected to face charges related to the possession, sale, and distribution of illegal narcotics. If convicted, he could face severe penalties under Liberian law, which include lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines.
