MONROVIA – The Liberia National Students’ Union (LINSU) has issued a scathing rebuke of the Liberian government, accusing it of systemic neglect of the education sector amid the ongoing crisis within the Monrovia Consolidated School System (MCSS).
In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, LINSU denounced what it described as “intolerable structural employment and wage irregularities” affecting teachers, along with the deteriorating conditions of public schools. The student advocacy body decried the lack of essential teaching resources and accused the government of prioritizing corruption over education.
“This government has, time and again, proven to be more concerned with facilitating corruption than with securing a quality education for its people,” the statement read. “While our students languish in dilapidated classrooms without the necessary resources to learn, public officials are busy looting state resources with impunity.”
LINSU voiced its full support for MCSS students who have staged protests demanding better learning conditions, vowing to escalate demonstrations if immediate corrective actions are not taken. The union issued a stern warning to the government, demanding the prompt resolution of the MCSS crisis, payment of teachers’ salaries, and significant improvements in school infrastructure.
“Let it be made clear that LINSU is prepared to command and lead an unprecedented student uprising across Liberia if this government does not take swift corrective action,” the statement continued. “Our patience is exhausted, and the deliberate ignorance of our leaders toward the plight of students will no longer be tolerated.”
