SENATOR SAAH JOSEPH SUGGESTS ALLOCATING US$3 MILLION FOR FIRE TRUCKS TO TACKLE FIRE EMERGENCIES

Date:

MONROVIA – Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph has put forward a proposal for the approval of US$3 million by the national government to procure 17 fire trucks, aimed at addressing the increasing incidents of fire disasters in the county.

Senator Joseph’s call comes in the wake of several fire incidents, including his own home being gutted by fire, followed by the recent fire outbreak at the residence of House Speaker, Cllr. Fonati Koffa. While no casualties were reported, significant property damage occurred.

Speaking to legislative reporters on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, shortly after submitting his communication to the plenary of the Liberian Senate, Senator Joseph emphasized that the proposed US$3 million would be utilized to procure 17 fire trucks for each of the 17 electoral districts in Montserrado County. Additionally, funds would be allocated for firefighter training, acquisition of essential accessories, and ensuring the effective deployment of the fire trucks across the county.

Describing the frequent fire disasters in Liberia, particularly in Montserrado County, as a national emergency, Senator Joseph stressed the urgency for the Liberian government, through the 55th National Legislature, to swiftly address his proposal.

As the chair of the Senate Committee on Transport, Senator Joseph emphasized that the allocated funds would significantly bolster the capacity of the Liberia Fire Service in combating fire disasters within Montserrado County. He underscored the importance of proactive measures by the government to address the concerns of affected citizens and implement strategies to mitigate future occurrences.

With numerous fire incidents occurring across the country, Senator Joseph emphasized the critical need for decisive action by the government to prioritize the safety and well-being of Liberian citizens and to prevent further devastation from fire disasters.
