MONROVIA – Liberia’s Ambassador for Tourism, Christopher Hayes Onanuga, has launched a scathing attack on Bomi County Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe, calling him a “con artist” in a social media post that has sparked controversy.
Onanuga, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, accused Snowe of nearly “selling the country” in 2006 while serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives. He alleged that Snowe acted as “The Executive President of Liberia” and engaged in unauthorized dealings with Taiwan, including writing official letters that attempted to shift the country’s foreign policy.
“This con artist called Melvin Snowe, in 2006, nearly sold the country,” Onanuga wrote. “He collected all he could collect from Taiwan, even writing letters with his con fingers, signing them, and changing the foreign policies of a whole country, just because the people of Montserrado made a mistake by electing him representative. Thank God he was found out.”
The ambassador expressed concerns about Snowe’s current political influence, questioning whether he was engaged in actions that could undermine Liberia’s stability for financial gain. “A man without principles, morals, and dignity is not worth living,” he added.
Senator Snowe, known for his strategic political maneuvering, responded to the allegations with a cryptic remark. “Absolutely no comment! I normally drink my tea when it is cold,” he posted on social media, refusing to engage in a public back-and-forth.
The remarks have kindled debate, with some Liberians recalling past controversies surrounding Snowe’s political career, while others question Onanuga’s motives for making such accusations.
