MONROVIA – Authorities have launched a manhunt for Abraham Kamara, an alleged fake doctor who performed an unauthorized surgery that resulted in the death of 39-year-old Dorcas Vondeh. Kamara, the operator of ABC Clinic in Gardnersville, is accused of medical malpractice and fraud after conducting a fibroid removal procedure without the necessary qualifications.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, by the Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), the unauthorized surgery took place on March 16, 2025. A formal complaint filed by Elbert Law Firm on behalf of the deceased’s family details how Kamara convinced Vondeh that he was a qualified medical professional. Medical records from Redemption Hospital confirm that she had been advised to seek surgery from a certified specialist, but instead, she proceeded with the procedure at ABC Clinic, believing Kamara’s false claims.
Tragically, Vondeh succumbed to severe complications just minutes after the operation. Investigations reveal that Kamara failed to stabilize her condition, and critical medical protocols were ignored before and during the surgery. The case has sparked outrage as further reports indicate ABC Clinic had previously been shut down for non-compliance with health regulations.
Joseph Colmah, Clinical and Research Director at LMDC, confirmed that despite an official closure notice, the facility continued to operate illegally for two years without certification. Following Vondeh’s death, Kamara fled and remains at large.
Authorities have urged the public to assist in locating him. “We are calling on all citizens to help bring this individual to justice. No one should suffer at the hands of unqualified practitioners,” said James-Emmanuel D. Cole, Jr., LMDC’s Bureau of Communications/Public Relations Officer.
Kamara faces multiple charges, including fraud, practicing medicine without a license, and medical negligence resulting in death.
