Reports indicate the party intended to trade this invaluable natural resource for 285 pieces of earth-moving equipment, sparking widespread outrage over perceived threats to Liberia’s environmental and economic interests.

Prominent Liberian social justice advocate and writer Grace RK Guar expressed disappointment in the UP’s actions on Friday, July 19, 2024. She emphasized that the mountain should have been sold to Liberian investors, specifically Richelieu Dennis, a successful entrepreneur, rather than to foreign interests. Guar believes this approach would encourage diaspora investment, fostering social and economic growth.
Richelieu Dennis, known for ventures like Sundial Brands and Essence Ventures, embodies a vision of empowering local investors. Guar argues that involving Liberians in national development aligns with national interests and builds local capacity.
