MONROVIA, LIBERIA – On December 21, 2024, Feed the Hungry USA, through its Liberian affiliate, Feed the Hungry West Africa, led by Country Director Bishop John Allan Klayee, extended its monthly food distribution initiative to four additional orphanages. This initiative, part of the “Every Day, Every Child” program, seeks to combat hunger and poverty across Liberia and has been a cornerstone of Bishop Klayee’s ministry since 2006.
The recent beneficiaries included Peter Seclco Orphanage Home along the Kakata Bong Mines Highway, Lehkpehs Town Orphanage Home, Temas Orphanage Home in Bomi County, and Children Rescue Orphanage in Mount Barclay. Essential items such as rice, cornmeal, toothbrushes, clothing, and footwear were distributed, bringing much-needed relief to children and residents.
Bishop Klayee emphasized that the feeding program is not confined to the holiday season but is a regular effort aimed at meeting critical needs. “Feeding the hungry is ministry—it’s what I love to do,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to serving vulnerable communities beyond the pulpit.
At Lehkpehs Town Orphanage Home, where the first distribution began, Bishop Klayee expressed joy in giving back and reiterated his commitment to aiding the less fortunate. “We hope this effort will make a meaningful impact on their lives,” he stated. Recipients expressed heartfelt gratitude, with one beneficiary remarking, “We are thankful for Bishop Klayee and his organization for supporting us during these difficult times.”
Feed the Hungry West Africa, in partnership with LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry, has established 19 feeding centers across Liberia, reaching over 19,300 children. The program also supports schools, churches, a hospital in Nimba County, and elderly communities, showcasing a holistic approach to addressing hunger.
Bishop Klayee recounted an emotional moment that reinforced his mission: “A child once hugged me tightly and said he had no one to hug him. That moment reaffirmed why this work matters.” These interactions, he explained, fuel his determination to make a difference.
The program’s impact is made possible through partnerships with organizations like Liberty Church in Fairfield, California, and the cooperation of the Liberian government. Bishop Klayee expressed gratitude for their support, particularly in ensuring the timely clearance of shipments.
The administrators of the benefiting orphanages praised the initiative, noting its profound effect on the most vulnerable. “This program brings hope and comfort to those who need it most,” they remarked.
Feed the Hungry’s journey in Liberia began humbly in 2006 when Bishop Klayee provided care for three abandoned infants at his church on Old Road. Word spread, and the initiative grew to include 19 children by the end of that year. Today, it has evolved into a nationwide program addressing critical needs in diverse communities.
Bishop Klayee’s humanitarian work extends beyond orphanages to schools, churches, elderly communities, and healthcare facilities. His connection with LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry, facilitated by Liberty Church, has been instrumental in scaling the program’s reach and impact.
The organization’s continued efforts highlight the transformative power of compassion. Bishop Klayee believes that true ministry happens outside the church walls, stating, “Only 20% of ministry is on the pulpit; the rest is meeting needs and sharing God’s love through actions.”
As the program expands, its mission remains steadfast: to ensure that every child and vulnerable individual receives essential support. Bishop Klayee’s vision of love in action continues to inspire hope across Liberia, one meal at a time.
From its humble beginnings to a nationwide effort, Feed the Hungry Liberia demonstrates how sustained commitment and partnerships can address pressing societal challenges. Bishop Klayee’s leadership and dedication serve as a beacon of hope, reminding many that even small acts of kindness can lead to significant change.
