MONROVIA, LIBERIA – On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) began a competitive bidding process aimed at securing contracts for the renovation of the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) building, located in Charlesville, Margibi County. This step is part of NPHIL’s strategic initiative to enhance the infrastructure of its critical public health facilities, further boosting the laboratory’s capacity to support research and diagnostic services.
The bidding process also includes proposals for the supply of scratch cards and catering services for NPHIL’s daily operations. The expansion and modernization of the laboratory are seen as essential to strengthening Liberia’s overall healthcare system, ensuring that it can better serve the country’s public health needs.
The bid opening was held in line with Liberia’s Public Procurement and Concessions Act, emphasizing the principles of fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all participants. Representatives from various companies gathered as the submissions were reviewed and registered. While this session focused solely on the official opening of bids, the next stage will involve a thorough evaluation process to assess the responsiveness and competitiveness of the proposals.
The NPHIL intends to use the insights from this evaluation to select the most qualified and competitive contractors to carry out the renovation works and provide the necessary services. This marks a significant development for Liberia’s public health sector, aligning with efforts to improve laboratory services and ensure that the NRL meets international standards.
