MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Dama R. Yekeson-Koffa, the wife of Speaker of the House of Representatives J. Fonati Koffa, has resigned as Deputy CEO for Administration at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, further deepening speculation about growing tensions between the Executive and Legislative branches.
In a letter dated February 17, 2025, and addressed to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Yekeson-Koffa cited personal reasons, specifically her mother’s health, for her immediate departure from the nation’s largest referral hospital. However, her sudden resignation has raised questions about whether political friction between the Boakai administration and her husband, Speaker Koffa, may have played a role.
Speaker Koffa, who leads the House of Representatives, has faced mounting pressure amid allegations of procedural breaches and accusations related to the controversial handling of the 2024 Fiscal Budget. His leadership has come under review from key figures within the administration, causing what many observers view as a growing rift between the Executive Mansion and the Legislature.
Yekeson-Koffa’s departure comes as the Boakai administration faces criticism for what opposition lawmakers describe as efforts to marginalize those aligned with the Speaker. Some political analysts believe her resignation could signal further deterioration in the relationship between the two branches of government.
In her letter, Yekeson-Koffa outlined several achievements during her tenure, including the establishment of critical medical services such as an Imaging Center, Dialysis Unit, and a Cancer Center. She expressed pride in the hospital’s transformation over the past seven years and extended gratitude to President Boakai for the opportunity to serve.
While Yekeson-Koffa emphasized personal obligations as the reason for her resignation, political watchers note that her exit adds to the growing list of resignations and suspensions involving individuals linked to opposition lawmakers.
Neither the Executive Mansion nor Speaker Koffa has issued an official statement on her resignation. However, with ongoing disputes over legislative decisions and accusations of power struggles, her departure is likely to fuel further debate over political alignment within the government.
