VOTING UNDERWAY IN NIMBA COUNTY TO REPLACE SENATOR PRINCE Y. JOHNSON

NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA – Voting officially began early Tuesday morning in Nimba County as residents head to the polls to elect a new senator following the death of long-serving lawmaker Prince Y. Johnson.

The by-election is being held to fill the vacant seat left in the Liberian Senate after the passing of Senator Johnson, who represented Nimba County for several terms and was a prominent political figure in the country. Voters began casting their ballots across the county shortly after polling centers opened, with election officials on the ground to ensure a smooth and orderly process.

The National Elections Commission (NEC) has deployed staff to oversee the process, while security personnel are present to maintain peace throughout the day. Several candidates are vying for the vacant Senate seat, hoping to gain the support of the county’s electorate and continue the political legacy left behind.

The by-election is being closely watched both locally and nationally, as Nimba remains one of Liberia’s most politically significant counties. Voter turnout and the conduct of the process will be critical to the legitimacy of the result.

Smart News Liberia will continue to provide real-time updates on the developments from the polls and the eventual announcement of results.
