MONROVIA – Reports reaching Smart News Liberia indicate that former First Lady of Liberia, Madam Nancy B. Doe, has reportedly passed away. According to sources familiar with the matter, Madam Doe died on the morning of Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at her residence in Sinkor, Monrovia.
Madam Doe was the widow of the late President Samuel Kanyon Doe, who ruled Liberia from 1980 until his brutal death in 1990 during the height of the country’s first civil war. President Doe was captured and executed by forces loyal to the Independent National Patriotic Front of Liberia (INPFL), a breakaway rebel faction led by Prince Yormie Johnson, who would later become Senator of Nimba County.
As First Lady, Nancy Doe served during a turbulent chapter of Liberia’s history. Despite the political and military unrest that characterized her husband’s administration, she maintained a quiet but prominent presence in national affairs. Following the assassination of her husband, she remained largely out of the public eye, though she occasionally made appearances at official events and functions tied to national remembrance.
At the time of this report, official confirmation from the family or government authorities had not yet been issued regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
