NIMBA COUNTY – Nimba County Senator Samuel Gongben Kogar narrowly escaped what is being described as an alleged poisoning attempt on Monday, August 19, 2025.
Reports say a Guinean national identified as Diasielay confessed to sneaking into the senator’s residence in Ganta around 10:00 p.m. with the intention of killing him through traditional means. According to accounts, the suspect claimed he had been hired to carry out the act.
Diasielay was initially turned over to the Liberia National Police in Ganta before being transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Bureau of Customs & Cultural Affairs in Sanniquellie for what authorities referred to as “traditional investigation.”
Speaking after the incident, Senator Kogar called for calm among his supporters as the investigation continues. He expressed gratitude for what he described as divine protection, saying he trusts the authorities to establish the truth behind the matter.
