SPEAKER KOON URGES LIBERIANS TO UPHOLD UNITY AND PATRIOTISM ON FLAG DAY

MONROVIA – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, has called on Liberians to use this year’s National Flag Day celebration as a moment of renewed commitment to unity, peace, and patriotism.

In a statement issued on behalf of the 55th Legislature on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Speaker Koon extended greetings and best wishes to all citizens of the Republic, while reflecting on the significance of the Lone Star Flag as a symbol of sovereignty and resilience.

“Today, we stand united in reverence and deep appreciation for the enduring symbol of our sovereignty – the Lone Star Flag,” Speaker Koon declared. “First hoisted on August 24, 1847, our flag has flown as a beacon of hope, freedom, and resilience. It embodies the sacrifices of our forebears, the strength of our national identity, and the promise of a better future for generations to come.”

The House of Representatives, through its leadership, reminded Liberians that the red, white, and blue stripes, along with the single white star, symbolize not only the nation’s independence but also its enduring quest for unity and justice.

“As we celebrate this Flag Day, let us renew our collective commitment to the principles of democracy, justice, and patriotism,” Speaker Koon added. “Let us teach our children the values embedded in our national symbols and strive to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Liberian nation in all that we do.”

The Speaker further urged Liberians both at home and abroad to demonstrate respect for the flag not merely through ceremonies, but through daily acts of service, civic engagement, and contributions toward national progress.

“On behalf of the 55th Legislature, we urge all Liberians at home and abroad to honor our flag not only in ceremony but through action, by fostering harmony, engaging in civic duty, and contributing meaningfully to national progress,” Koon emphasized.

As the nation commemorates the 178th anniversary of the Lone Star Flag, Speaker Koon expressed optimism that the values of liberty and unity will continue to guide Liberia toward a brighter future.
