NEW LDEA CHIEF FITZGERALD BIAGO VOWS ZERO TOLERANCE FOR DRUG TRAFFICKERS AND ROGUE OFFICERS

MONROVIA – Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, the newly inducted Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has vowed to take a tough stance against drug traffickers and rogue officers within the agency, declaring that there will be no tolerance for anyone sabotaging the national fight against narcotics.

Speaking during his official takeover ceremony on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the LDEA Headquarters in Monrovia, Biago warned that any officer caught protecting or collaborating with drug dealers will be immediately dismissed. He stressed that there will be “no room for saboteurs” under his command, adding, “You are either with us in this fight, or you will be shown the way out.”

Biago pledged to restore discipline, integrity, and operational effectiveness in the agency, while assuring Liberians that the LDEA will enforce the nation’s drug laws “without fear or favor.” He described drug abuse and trafficking as one of the gravest threats facing Liberia, undermining national security, destroying communities, and endangering young people.

As part of his first actions in office, Biago announced a mandatory nationwide drug test for all LDEA officers to ensure accountability and integrity. In a symbolic move, the new interim leadership, including Biago himself, submitted to drug testing administered by medical practitioners in the presence of the media. He emphasized that those leading the fight against narcotics must be beyond reproach.

The LDEA’s new OIC also outlined plans to intensify operations to dismantle trafficking networks and distribution channels, warning drug traffickers and their supporters to prepare for aggressive enforcement. “Consider this your final warning, the LDEA will come after you with the full weight of the law. There will be no hiding place,” Biago declared.

He further announced the upcoming establishment of an Anti-Drugs Hotline to encourage citizens to provide intelligence to support law enforcement operations. Biago called on the media to play a critical role in ensuring transparency and accountability while building public trust in the agency’s renewed campaign.

Acknowledging the support of the Ministry of Justice, Biago emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Liberia National Police and the broader Joint Security to strengthen operations across the country. He stressed that the fight against drugs cannot be won by the LDEA alone but requires the involvement of every Liberian.

“With God above and the support of every Liberian, we shall prevail,” Biago concluded, signaling what he described as a new chapter in Liberia’s national war on drugs.

It is worth noting that DCP Biago was appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the LDEA by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Thursday, August 28, 2025, alongside Mr. Ernest T. Tarpeh, Assistant Director for Special Services at the National Security Agency, who now serves as Deputy for Administration and Investigation, and ACP Patrick B. Kormazu of the Liberia National Police, who now serves as Deputy for Operations. Their appointments came after the dismissal with immediate effect of Director General Anthony K. Souh, Deputy Director General for Administration Gwee K. Porkpah, and Deputy Director General for Operations Sebastian Farr.
