FORMER PRESIDENT WEAH’S CHIEF OF STAFF DENIES PLANNED MEETING WITH U.S. PRESIDENT TRUMP

MONROVIA – Eugene Nagbe, Chief of Staff to former Liberian President George Weah, has dismissed reports suggesting that a meeting between former President Weah and U.S. President Donald Trump is imminent. The clarification comes amid circulating media claims linking Weah to a potential diplomatic engagement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Nagbe emphasized that no official or private meeting between Weah and Trump has been scheduled, either individually or as part of a FIFA delegation, contradicting a report by Spoon Network.

“In response to multiple queries from media personnel, I wish to clarify that there is currently no scheduled meeting between United States President Donald Trump and Former President George Weah individually or as a member of a FIFA delegation as reported by Spoon Network,” Nagbe said.

Nagbe accused Spoon Network of engaging in what he described as a “political phishing expedition,” suggesting that the outlet had intentionally misrepresented the situation for political or sensational purposes.

He explained that while former President Weah holds a key role within FIFA, and President Trump has been actively involved in leadership engagements with FIFA in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, any suggestion of a scheduled meeting at this time is purely speculative.

The Chief of Staff added that the plausibility of such meetings may increase as the 2026 World Cup approaches, given Weah’s ongoing involvement with FIFA and international football activities.

Nagbe’s statement sought to clarify misinformation circulating in both local and international media, reiterating that no formal arrangements have been made between the two leaders.
