MONROVIA – The Alternative National Congress (ANC), led by political leader Alexander B. Cummings, has voiced strong condemnation of the Unity Party–led government for prioritizing party interests over the urgent needs of ordinary Liberians. In a statement issued Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and signed by Desmond Ujay Nimely, National Secretary General, the ANC accused the government of diverting time, resources, and political energy into acquiring and expanding Unity Party headquarters across the country while citizens struggle with daily hardships.
According to the ANC, the government’s focus on political real estate comes at a time when the Liberian people face soaring commodity prices, rising unemployment, a failing health sector, deteriorating infrastructure, and a stagnant economy. The statement argues that such priorities reflect a leadership increasingly disconnected from the realities confronting ordinary families across Liberia.
The party’s criticism was particularly pointed toward what it describes as self-serving politics under the Unity Party. The ANC claims that rather than implementing policies that improve livelihoods, create jobs, or stabilize essential commodities, the administration has concentrated its efforts on consolidating its own political footprint. “This is not governance; it is self-serving politics at the expense of ordinary people,” the statement said.
Highlighting economic mismanagement, the ANC pointed to unchecked allowances for government officials, frequent overseas trips, inflated contracts, and opaque financial dealings as evidence of a government out of touch with citizen needs. The party argued that such behavior exposes a lack of leadership, compassion, and competence, suggesting that the administration has failed to prioritize public welfare over political interests.
The ANC also raised urgent public service issues, emphasizing that water scarcity and electricity rationing by the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) during the dry season are among the many challenges facing citizens. The party stressed that the government’s focus on party infrastructure comes at a critical time when investment in people, not political structures, is what the nation truly requires.
In its statement, the ANC called on the Unity Party–led government to redirect attention toward substantive policies that tackle poverty, food insecurity, unemployment, and the collapse of essential public services. The party insisted that these areas should be the primary concern of any government that seeks to serve its citizens effectively.
The ANC further argued that Liberians deserve a government that works for their welfare rather than one that enriches itself while the population struggles to survive. “The Liberian people deserve better,” the statement read. “They deserve a government that works for them, not one that enriches itself while citizens struggle to survive.”
Cummings’ party also highlighted that the current government’s decisions not only affect the immediate economic well-being of citizens but also threaten long-term development prospects. By channeling resources into party expansion rather than national development, the ANC contends, the administration undermines trust in governance and weakens the nation’s institutional capacity.
The ANC pledged continued advocacy for policies and governance that prioritize citizen welfare and national development. The party’s leadership reiterated its commitment to holding the government accountable while promoting transparency, social equity, and economic stability in Liberia.
