SEN. SNOWE DEMANDS IMMEDIATE AUDIT OF DELINQUENT HEALTH WORKERS AMID BOMI COUNTY HEALTH CRISIS

BOMI COUNTY, LIBERIA — Senior Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe has raised alarm over the persistent delinquency of health workers in public facilities across Bomi County, calling for urgent corrective action from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. In a formal letter dated February 3, 2026, Snowe highlighted the severe disruption of medical services, particularly in rural communities.

Reports from community leaders and residents indicate that health personnel assigned to clinics in Yomoh Town, Sackie Town, and other parts of Senjeh District have been irregular or absent from duty. “Health workers are failing to report regularly for duty or are delinquent in administering essential healthcare services, contrary to their professional and contractual obligations,” Sen. Snowe wrote to Health Minister Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto.

The senator emphasized the grave consequences of absenteeism on vulnerable populations. “The absence or irregular presence of assigned health personnel has significantly disrupted the provision of basic health services, leaving communities, especially women, children, the elderly, and persons with chronic conditions, without access to timely and reliable medical care,” he warned.

Sen. Snowe underscored that the current situation undermines the government’s commitment to national health coverage. He called on the Ministry to take immediate steps to address the problem and ensure that all citizens receive the medical care to which they are entitled.

In his letter, the Bomi County lawmaker requested a personnel audit across all public health facilities in the affected districts. “I request that the Ministry of Health conduct an immediate personnel audit of public health facilities in Senjeh District and other affected parts of Bomi County,” Snowe wrote, urging accountability and transparency.

He also requested a comprehensive report detailing the names, designations, and duty status of all health workers officially assigned to each facility. “These requested information will greatly assist in assessing service delivery gaps and in facilitating appropriate corrective measures,” the senator explained.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Sen. Snowe stressed that public health is a matter of life and safety. “This matter deserves the utmost attention in the interest of safeguarding the health and well-being of our people,” he noted, calling on the Ministry to act swiftly to restore confidence in rural health services.

The letter was copied to Sen. Dabah M. Varpilah, Chairperson of the Senate’s Committee on Health, reinforcing the call for legislative oversight and engagement in addressing gaps in service delivery.

Sen. Snowe also urged that corrective measures go beyond audits, advocating for sustainable mechanisms to ensure regular attendance and accountability among health workers. “Communities must not continue to bear the consequences of delinquent personnel while the system remains unmonitored,” he said.
