MONROVIA – The family of Samuel P. Jackson has issued a detailed public statement addressing growing speculation surrounding the death of his wife, Ntombikayise Innocentia Khumalo, as investigations by the Liberia National Police continue.
In the statement released on March 17, 2026, the Jackson family expressed profound grief over the passing of Toni Khumalo, extending condolences to her mother, Eliza Khumalo, her aunt Merriam Khoarane, and the broader Khumalo family. They described her death as a “deeply tragic loss” while also reaffirming their support for Mr. Jackson during what they termed an extremely difficult time.
Amid mounting public scrutiny, the family raised concerns about what they called “ongoing public speculation and premature conclusions” regarding the circumstances of Khumalo’s death. They emphasized that Mr. Jackson is fully cooperating with authorities and urged the public to allow due process to take its course without interference.
The statement specifically acknowledged the role of the Liberia National Police and commended Inspector General Gregory Coleman and his team for what the family described as professionalism in handling the case so far.
In an effort to counter widespread rumors, the family addressed allegations of possible financial motives. They clarified that no life insurance policy existed in Khumalo’s name that would benefit Mr. Jackson, while noting that the couple shared joint business interests across Liberia, South Africa, and the United States.
The family also took the unusual step of disclosing aspects of Khumalo’s medical history, stressing that the information was being provided solely to give context amid public speculation. According to the statement, Khumalo experienced several health-related incidents over the past three years, including falls, seizures, and episodes requiring emergency attention in multiple countries.
Among the incidents highlighted was a 2023 fall in Monrovia that resulted in a serious nasal injury, as well as a July 2025 emergency call from the couple’s residence in Georgia, United States, following another fall. The statement also referenced a medical emergency aboard a United Airlines flight in December 2025 that forced an emergency landing in New York.
The family further disclosed that on March 9, 2026, just days before her death, Khumalo was found semi-conscious at home in Monrovia and was assisted by household staff, though she reportedly declined further medical care. They indicated that Mr. Jackson had consistently encouraged his wife to seek medical attention, efforts which were not always accepted.
Beyond clarifications, the Jackson family issued a strong appeal for responsible public discourse, warning against the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media. They urged both the public and media institutions to prioritize accuracy, respect the dignity of the deceased, and avoid sensationalism during the ongoing investigation.
In a notable addition, Mr. Jackson also issued an apology through the statement for any remarks or actions made in the immediate aftermath of his wife’s death, attributing them to grief and emotional distress rather than intent to offend.
The family concluded by reiterating their commitment to cooperate fully with investigators and called for patience as authorities work to establish the facts. They stressed that this is a moment for “truth, compassion, and restraint,” signaling their hope that the process will unfold with integrity and respect for all involved.
