FORMER CHIEF JUSTICE SCOTT’S FAMILY UNHAPPY OVER ‘LATE DEPLOYMENT’ OF POLICE OFFICERS AT HER HOME

Date:

By Olando Testimony Zeongar

MONROVIA – The family of former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu-Scott has expressed shock and dissatisfaction over what can be described as the late deployment of officers of the Liberian National Police (LNP) at her Brewerville residence, following a recent fatal attack that claimed the life of her daughter, Ms.  Charloe Musu.

Late Wednesday night, armed assailants stormed the Brewerville residence of Cllr. Scott, stabbing to death one of her daughters, and leaving two other persons wounded, with the former Chief Justice reportedly escaping the attackers’ onslaught by the skin of the teeth, after she pepper-sprayed the unidentified gang leader of the attackers.

The following day, the Liberia National Police (LNP) through its spokesperson, H. Moses Carter, Sr., announced that it had begun an investigation into Wednesday’s incident that took place at the Brewerville home of former Chief Justice Scott and that she was now under appropriate police protection.

But, in a statement issued at the weekend, former Chief Justice Scott’s family, lamented that even though, there were two initial attacks on the 8th and 9th of February 2013, two nights in a row, which were reported to the police, no action was taken until, what the family described as the worst, befell them.

“The family informs the public and the International Community that the government was made duly aware through the Police Depot in Brewerville and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Republic of Liberia after the first, second and even the third attacks which saw the gruesome murder of Charloe Musu, a prospective graduate of the Starz University College, the stabbing of Alice Johnson, wounding of Gertrude Newton and the attempt on the life of former Chief Justice Gloria Scott, our family tower and a stateswoman who has given herself to the service of the nation and People of Liberia,” the statement from Cllr. Scott’s family indicated.

Howbeit, members of Cllr. Scott’s family say they are baffled by what seems redundant, the deployment of police officers after they have been forced in a situation that they can never forget.

“Even by Bog-Standard, the state / Police has a duty to protect all citizens regardless of social strata, political affiliation or belief or religion,” the family noted, indicating that conversely, former Chief Justice Scott alarmed the deadly attacks and threats on her home and life in vain.

“We are however inclined to believe that had any other government official’s premises been attacked twice and alarmed, the government would have taken action to avert what happened to us. But it is for the public to judge this and other murders which have happened in our country,” the family emphasized.

The family disclosed that it remains ever grateful to scores of citizens, friends, sympathizers, professional colleagues, organizations, and current and former officials of government and diplomatic missions in the country and outside of the borders of Liberia that have visited, called, texted them or made public condemnation regarding the gruesome attacks.

“The family particularly appreciates the role of the Liberian media in flagging this matter from the very first and second attacks on us with no action taken until the worst befell us,” the statement noted.
