BREWERVILLE, LIBERIA – The Apostolic Community for Peace and Justice (ACPJ), located on VOA Road in Brewerville City, has extended its profound thanks and appreciation to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for its recent report on public officials’ asset declarations, as required by Liberian law. In a press statement issued on Saturday, September 7, 2024, and signed by its Acting Director, Mustapha McCarthy, the ACPJ commended the LACC for upholding the law and transparency in governance.
According to the LACC report, which was covered in local newspapers this week, out of 1,900 public officials appointed by the President of Liberia, 1,008 have complied with the requirement to declare their assets, while 802 remain non-compliant. The report also revealed that 60 lawmakers, representing 53% of government officials, have failed to meet the LACC’s deadline for asset declaration.
In its statement, the Apostolic Community for Peace and Justice strongly denounced the “careless and lawless” behavior of public officials who have failed to comply with the law. The ACPJ called on these officials to uphold the principles of good governance and the rule of law by declaring and publishing their assets, in line with Liberia’s legal framework.
The ACPJ also praised those lawmakers and government officials who have fulfilled their legal obligations by declaring their assets, acknowledging their respect for the rule of law and commitment to transparency.
