ALEXANDER CUMMINGS TO RE-EMERGE IN POLITICS, PROMISES TO CHALLENGE UNITY PARTY’S GOVERNANCE

Date:

MONROVIA – In a recent Facebook alert on Sunday, June 9, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) announced that its political leader, Alexander Cummings, is set to re-enter the political arena. The ANC declared, “We (ABC) will bounce back soon to enlighten the Liberian people about some missteps by the UP (Unity Party) administration. Liberians deserve better.” This statement marks Cummings’ first political movement since his defeat in the 2023 presidential election.

The Unity Party (UP) government, led by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has faced significant criticism from various quarters, including the opposition. Critics argue that Boakai has not fulfilled his campaign promises. His administration’s ARREST agenda—focusing on Agriculture, Roads, Rule of Law, Education, Sanitation, and Tourism—was designed to address Liberia’s economic challenges through comprehensive development strategies. However, many remain skeptical about the administration’s effectiveness in areas such as transparency, accountability, and integrity.

Recently, criticism intensified following the government’s announcement during a Cabinet Retreat. Minister of State Without Portfolio, Mamaka Bility, revealed that the UP government had procured 285 yellow machines, including trucks, intended for infrastructure and agricultural development. This move has sparked debates about the government’s priorities and effectiveness.

Cummings’ anticipated return to active politics promises to add a new dimension to the political discourse in Liberia. The ANC’s commitment to holding the Unity Party accountable underscores the ongoing tensions and the demand for improved governance in the country. As Liberia navigates these political dynamics, the public remains eager to see how these developments will shape the nation’s future.
