AMOS WILLIAMS APPOINTED INTERIM PRESIDENT OF FEDERATION OF LIBERIAN YOUTH

MONROVIA – The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially appointed Mr. Amos Williams, the former President of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), as the Interim President of the organization, effective immediately. The appointment comes in response to a leadership vacuum within FLY and is aimed at ensuring continuity and stability during this transitional period.

According to the Ministry, the decision is grounded in the Constitution of the Federation of Liberian Youth, particularly Article 12, which provides for the establishment of interim leadership during periods of constitutional crisis or leadership voids, and Article 6, Section 2.3, which outlines membership criteria and procedures for leadership succession.

The Ministry emphasized that this appointment aligns with historical precedents during previous transitions, reflecting a commitment to transparent and orderly leadership changes within the Federation. Mr. Williams’ interim mandate is set to last three months.

In a statement, Minister of Youth and Sports Jeror Cole Bangalu called on national and international partners, youth and student organizations, and youth leaders at all levels to support Mr. Williams during this period. The Ministry stressed that collaborative efforts are vital to navigating the transitional phase effectively, fostering unity, and promoting progress within the Federation.

“The Ministry remains dedicated to nurturing our youth and encouraging their active involvement in societal development,” Minister Bangalu said. “We trust that with the collective efforts of all stakeholders, this transitional period will be managed with integrity and vision, ensuring a bright future for the Federation and its members.”

Mr. Williams, who previously led FLY, now faces the task of guiding the organization through the interim period, maintaining stability, and preparing for the eventual election of permanent leadership. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that his experience and familiarity with the organization will contribute to a smooth and effective transition.

The Ministry’s announcement underscores the importance of constitutional compliance, institutional continuity, and youth engagement in Liberia’s civic and social development.
