MONROVIA – The National Youth Congress of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) has issued its third State of the Youth Report, sharply criticizing President Joseph Boakai’s administration for alleged corruption, neglect of young people, and a worsening drug crisis.
Speaking at the gathering on Friday, August 29, 2025, ANC Youth Congress leaders accused the government of “losing its moral compass” and presiding over a democracy that has become “a masquerade.” The report cited the 2024 U.S. Human Rights Report, highlighting allegations of arbitrary killings, torture, censorship of journalists, and suppression of dissent.
The Youth Congress also condemned the Liberia National Police for demolishing the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) youth headquarters, describing law enforcement as “political mercenaries” rather than public servants.
Calling for innovation in national governance, the ANC Youth Congress urged the government to convert the so-called “World Trade Center,” where young Liberians skilled in technology were recently arrested, into a national technology hub similar to South Korea’s cyber defense program.
On the issue of narcotics, the Youth Congress accused the administration of paying mere lip service while providing inadequate resources for drug rehabilitation and law enforcement. The group called for stronger, more coordinated efforts to tackle the growing drug crisis that threatens Liberia’s youth and overall national security.
The report, issued by the ANC Youth Congress, concludes with a call for the government to prioritize youth empowerment, transparency, and accountability in order to restore public trust and address Liberia’s pressing social and economic challenges.
