MONROVIA – The Alternative National Congress (ANC) Youth Congress has intensified its opposition to House Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, calling on Liberians to resist what it describes as a dangerous assault on democracy.
In a strongly worded statement issued Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and signed by Secretary-General Alieu Kiadii, the group accused Speaker Koon of using his position to undermine justice and erode democratic principles. It claimed that his leadership has emboldened lawlessness and corruption at the highest levels of government.
The youth movement cited recent incidents, including an attack on a journalist and the alleged unlawful search of Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s vehicle. It condemned these acts as clear evidence of a government that disregards fundamental rights and suppresses dissent.
The statement further alleged that since taking control of the House of Representatives, Speaker Koon has overseen a surge in questionable development projects, including a wave of luxury real estate acquisitions. The youth group claimed these projects are fueled by corruption and serve as glaring symbols of betrayal against the Liberian people.
Vowing to resist what it termed a regime of deception and abuse, the ANC Youth Congress called on citizens to rise against the current system of governance. It urged Liberians to reject oppression and demand transparency, warning that failure to act would embolden corrupt officials to tighten their grip on power.
Reaffirming its commitment to defending democratic values, the youth movement pledged to stand with every citizen willing to challenge the status quo. It insisted that Liberia must not be led by individuals who manipulate authority for personal gain, urging nationwide action to reclaim the country’s dignity and future.
