ASSISTANT DIRECTOR WOLO DISMISSED BY PRESIDENT BOAKAI

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has terminated the appointment of Mr. Nesco Aleo Wolo as Assistant Director for Operations at the National Security Agency (NSA). The announcement was contained in a press statement released on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, by Presidential Press Secretary Madam Kula Bonah Nyei Fofana. The decision, effective immediately, is described as part of broader efforts to bolster the efficiency and accountability of the nation’s security sector.

The dismissal follows concerns raised by the NSA regarding Wolo’s attendance at the funeral of Senator Prince Y. Johnson on January 18, where he reportedly represented the Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR). The agency expressed disapproval of Wolo’s actions, asserting that they contravened protocols barring personnel from engaging in activities deemed political or conflicting with the NSA’s mandate.

In a formal communication dated January 20, Deputy Director for Administration Patrick P. Doe directed Wolo to surrender all government-issued assets, including a vehicle, badge, firearm, and other items provided for official use. Wolo was also required to submit a detailed explanation regarding his participation in the funeral, which the agency considered a breach of its regulations.

President Boakai, in his statement, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the principles of professionalism and discipline across government institutions, particularly in the security sector. He thanked Mr. Wolo for his contributions during his tenure and extended best wishes for his future pursuits.
