BILITY URGES SENATOR NYA TWAYEN TO DEFEND NIMBA INTERESTS IN LIBERIAN LEGISLATIVE DISPUTE

MONROVIA – Representative Musa Hassan Bility of Nimba County has issued a strong open letter rallying Senator Nya Twayen to remain steadfast in defending Nimba County’s interests amid mounting pressure surrounding a national agreement now before the Legislature. The letter frames the moment as a defining test of leadership, accountability, and patriotism.

In the letter addressed directly to Senator Twayen, Bility commended the senator’s recent posture before his colleagues, describing his approach as calm, firm, and dignified. He praised Twayen for speaking “without arrogance, without insults, and without fear,” noting that such conduct resonated deeply with the people of Nimba and reflected principled leadership.

Bility, however, expressed disappointment with the House of Representatives, stating bluntly that it “did not do what it ought to have done” in ensuring that both national interests and the interests of Nimba County were fully protected. He described the situation as painful, but emphasized that true leadership is revealed under pressure, not convenience.

“This is your moment, Senator. Do not drop the ball. Do not bow to intimidation,” Bility wrote, urging Twayen not to allow anyone to frame advocacy for Nimba as opposition to the government. According to Bility, defending Nimba is not only compatible with the government’s agenda but essential to its credibility.

He stressed that Senator Twayen’s actions are beneficial to the administration’s Rescue Agenda, arguing that “leadership must never look away when our people are being shortchanged.” Bility warned against attempts to silence debate or rush agreements that do not fully serve the people, insisting such actions must not prevail in Nimba or Liberia.

The lawmaker also addressed growing public frustration and feelings of powerlessness, assuring Senator Twayen that he is not standing alone. “The people of Nimba stand with you in spirit, in prayer, and in expectation,” Bility said, underscoring that the senator has given voice to widespread concerns with courage and clarity.

Beyond words of encouragement, Bility pledged continued engagement across political lines to ensure the agreement is reviewed in a way that genuinely benefits Liberia. He maintained that any agreement that truly serves the country will ultimately strengthen the President, the Unity Party, and national unity.

“If it benefits Liberia, it will benefit the President. It will benefit the Unity Party. But most importantly, it will benefit our people,” Bility stated, setting what he described as the highest standard for legislative decision-making.

The letter repeatedly framed the issue as one of fairness and national interest, warning against shutting down scrutiny in favor of expediency. Bility argued that debate and review are essential safeguards, especially when the stakes involve resources and rights affecting Nimba County and the nation at large.

Concluding his message, Bility called on Senator Twayen to remain courageous and patriotic, acknowledging that the task ahead may feel isolating. “One determined voice grounded in truth and driven by love of country can make a difference,” he wrote, urging the senator to persist so that “Nimba prevails” and Liberia receives what is rightfully hers.
