ACCRA, GHANA – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has applauded the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as it celebrates its 50th anniversary, reaffirming Liberia’s dedication to regional solidarity and integration.
The Liberian leader traveled to Accra, Ghana, to take part in the official kickoff of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee commemorations, held at the Accra International Conference Centre. The ceremony brought together heads of state and high-level officials to honor five decades of partnership, unity, and progress within the West African sub-region.
President Boakai praised ECOWAS as a symbol of peace, collaboration, and economic unity across the region. He underscored Liberia’s continued loyalty to the bloc’s objectives, stressing the country’s resolve to work alongside other member nations in tackling shared challenges and advancing collective growth.
“ECOWAS has played a vital role in maintaining peace and fostering development across West Africa,” Boakai remarked. “Liberia remains fully committed to the organization’s mission and will continue to partner with fellow members in pursuit of our common goals.”
The 50th anniversary celebrations offered a moment of reflection on ECOWAS’s achievements over the years, while also serving as a platform for charting a more integrated and prosperous future for the region.
President Boakai was accompanied by a senior Liberian delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister Sarah Beysolow-Nyanti, Minister of State Without Portfolio Mamaka Bility, National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods, Economic Adviser Morley Kamara, and Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs Anthony Myers.
He returned to the capital, Monrovia, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
