MONROVIA – The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced the immediate expulsion of three high-profile members, citing prolonged acts of disloyalty and open collaboration with the ruling Unity Party government. The decision, announced on February 9, 2026, marks a significant escalation in internal party discipline as the opposition prepares for the 2029 general elections.
Those expelled are Senator Zoe E. Pennue, Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, and Representative Samson Weah of Sinoe County District Two. According to the CDC, the individuals’ actions over nearly 18 months have violated multiple provisions of the party’s Constitution and Bylaws, including Sections 38, 39, 41(A), 42, 44, 45, 46, and 47.
In its statement, the CDC referenced Section 47 of its Constitution, which outlines how membership may cease, including “constructive withdrawal by open declaration of transfer of loyalty to another political party” or expulsion endorsed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). The party said the conduct of the expelled officials clearly met these conditions.
“This expulsion action is a direct response to nearly 18 months of conducts that the CDC considers damaging to the party’s interests and in violation of its Constitution and Bylaws,” the statement said, underscoring what it described as a sustained pattern of anti-party behavior.
The CDC accused the expelled members of using public platforms to denigrate the party while aligning themselves with the Unity Party-led government. According to the opposition party, such alignment contradicts CDC’s core values and its stance against what it describes as poor governance under the current administration.
“The CDC does not condone such actions and affirms that these individuals are no longer affiliated with the party,” the statement declared, making it clear that the expulsions take immediate effect and leave no room for ambiguity regarding their status.
In unusually strong language, the party leadership said the expelled members had “chosen their path, one of reputational ruin and historical insignificance,” adding that any damage resulting from their actions would remain a stain on their personal legacies.
The CDC also framed the expulsions as a warning to other members who may contemplate similar actions. “These expulsions are lessons to any would-be deviants purporting to be members of Mighty CDC,” the party warned, insisting that the individuals now have “absolutely ties with the CDC” due to what it called deviant and anti-party conduct.
Further, the party cautioned the public against engaging with the expelled officials in the name of the CDC. It warned that anyone doing business with them under the party’s banner does so “at their own risks and peril,” signaling a complete institutional disassociation.
Signed by National Chairman Atty. Janga A. Kowo, the statement reaffirmed the CDC’s commitment to its people-centered principles and its political future. “CDC remains committed to its people-centered principles and will continue to move forward as we prepare to unseat the failed Unity Party government in 2029,” the statement concluded, positioning the expulsions as part of a broader strategy to consolidate party unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
