MONROVIA – In Montserrado County District #10, an alleged police raid on Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s political base has heightened tensions between him and President Joseph Boakai’s administration specifically the Executive. This incident early Monday morning has attracted attention, with the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) visiting Kolubah’s base to express solidarity.
National Secretary General Jefferson Tamba Koijee led the CDC delegation, denouncing the government’s actions and highlighting the party’s commitment to defending Liberians’ rights. Koijee stated, “We will not tolerate the vulnerability of the Liberian people,” emphasizing the CDC’s role in maintaining peace and justice.
The raid, reportedly conducted by the Liberia National Police (LNP), was described by residents as chaotic and brutal. Eyewitnesses claimed that officers seized money and valuables, including a television set and motorcycles, raising questions about the raid’s intent.
Kolubah, an outspoken critic of the Boakai administration—despite initially supporting it—has accused the President of orchestrating the raid in retaliation for his recent criticisms. In a Facebook live broadcast prior to the raid, Kolubah harshly criticized President Boakai and religious leaders, which many believe prompted the police action.
The lawmaker has vowed to confront the administration, demanding the return of all items taken. Known for his fiery rhetoric, Kolubah calls for greater transparency and accountability, principles central to Boakai’s electoral promises.
Godfrey Weah, representing the terminated Executive Protection Services (EPS), joined the CDC in supporting Kolubah. “Injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. We say no to oppression,” Weah declared, emphasizing solidarity against governmental overreach.
Rep. Kolubah thanked the CDC for their support, highlighting the importance of opposition unity. “What happened in the past is in the past. We are moving forward to ensure what was wrong yesterday becomes right today,” Kolubah affirmed, signaling collaboration.
The lawmaker and the executive could be in for a prolonged political battle. As calls for transperancy, accountability and openess.
Amid these developments, the Liberian public watches closely, aware that the unfolding drama reflects broader challenges facing the nation’s democracy. The confrontation’s outcome could impact Liberia’s political future.
Meanwhile, in response, police spokesperson DCP Cecelia G. Clarke denied any targeted raid on Kolubah’s political base. “No raid was carried out at Rep. Kolubah’s political base. The operation was a routine police activity,” Clarke stated, downplaying the allegations.
