CHIEF IMAM ALI KRAYEE CRITICIZES BOAKAI’S ASSET RECOVERY TASKFORCE AS A “MOCKERY”

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Chief Imam Ali Krayee has called for the reconstitution of President Joseph N. Boakai’s Asset Recovery Taskforce, terming the current composition as a mockery. He expressed his disappointment on Wednesday, April 10, while thanking the Liberian Muslim community at the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

He urged the Boakai administration to bring on board eminent citizens to retrieve the country’s stolen assets and termed the Asset Recovery Team as a mockery if its process does not begin from the regime of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

The recently formed Asset Recovery and Property Retrieval Taskforce was established by President Boakai under Executive Order #126. However, the Chief Imam’s criticism echoes concerns raised by Liberians who believe that the task force is not adequately equipped to recover the country’s stolen assets.

It is vital for Liberia’s government to ensure that the task force is appropriately staffed with qualified personnel who can pursue the recovery of stolen assets without fear or favor. The reconstitution of the Asset Recovery Taskforce would alleviate concerns and increase public trust in the process.
