MONROVIA – Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, on Wednesday officially dedicated two newly constructed magisterial courts in Gardnersville and Brewerville and reopened the refurbished Paynesville Magisterial Court. The ceremonies marked a significant step toward improving access to justice in densely populated areas outside central Monrovia.
Speaking during the event, Chief Justice Gbeisay commended the Boakai-Koung administration for prioritizing judicial infrastructure development. “These developments represent the government’s commitment to strengthening the justice system,” he said. “We also applaud President Joseph Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung for granting the Judiciary its long-awaited financial autonomy.” He emphasized that financial independence will enable the judiciary to manage its resources without political interference, improving both efficiency and impartiality in the courts.
The Chief Justice described the newly dedicated facilities as more than just buildings, highlighting their critical role in promoting the rule of law, peace, and stability in Liberia. The new magisterial courts are expected to ease the burden on existing judicial facilities and enhance the timely dispensation of justice for residents in Greater Monrovia.
Constructed with funding from the national budget under the oversight of the Judiciary, the courts have already garnered praise from local residents, court staff, and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, who attended the dedication ceremonies. They expressed optimism that the upgraded facilities would lead to quicker and fairer justice outcomes.
The Judiciary has indicated that similar interventions are planned across other parts of the country as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening judicial infrastructure and ensuring equitable access to justice nationwide.
