COMPLEX CHALLENGES AND CONTROVERSIES UNFOLD AT LIBERIA DRUG ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) is facing a complex situation that raises serious concerns about internal conflicts and illicit activities, casting a shadow over its operational transparency and accountability. Recent reports of a significant drug seizure at the Roberts International Airport (RIA), shrouded in secrecy with uncertainty about the whereabouts of the seized drugs, highlight potential issues within the agency.

Adding to the controversy is an ongoing dispute between LDEA Director Abraham Kromah and his deputy for operations, Hussein Fardigar. The clash between the two officials, which originated from a disagreement over the transfer of a commander at the RIA, reveals underlying tensions within the organization. Fardigar’s attempt to intervene at the RIA, possibly in response to suspicions of misconduct, emphasizes the challenges faced by the LDEA in combating drug trafficking and maintaining integrity.

The broader context of drug-related issues in Liberia further complicates the situation. The persistent challenge of illicit drug trafficking, along with allegations of collusion between LDEA officers and illicit dealers, underscores the urgent need for thorough investigations and oversight within the agency.

As the investigation into these controversies continues, it is crucial for authorities to prioritize transparency, accountability, and adherence to proper procedures. Addressing internal conflicts, strengthening anti-drug efforts, and upholding the rule of law are essential steps to restore trust in the LDEA and combat the scourge of drug trafficking in Liberia.

LDEA Director Abraham Kromah has acknowledged the conflict with his deputy for operations but denied any knowledge of the drug seizure at the RIA during a recent radio interview.
