MONROVIA – The newly appointed Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, M.D., has been engaging in a series of introductory meetings ahead of his official takeover on Monday, August 19, 2024. These meetings are part of Dr. Nyan’s efforts to familiarize himself with the internal operations and stakeholders of the institute, while laying the groundwork for his leadership.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2024, Dr. Nyan held a crucial meeting with the Board of Directors of NPHIL, where he assured the board of his commitment to collaboration. He emphasized that under his leadership, the institution would remain focused on fulfilling its mandate. “I am here to ensure that NPHIL continues to carry out its duties with the highest level of efficiency and dedication,” Dr. Nyan remarked during the meeting.
The introductory tour continued on Tuesday, August 13, with senior staff of the Ministry of Health (MoH). This meeting was described as highly interactive, with MoH staff expressing their willingness to cooperate with NPHIL under Dr. Nyan’s leadership. They lauded his appointment, seeing it as an opportunity for strengthened collaboration between NPHIL and the Ministry.
On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Dr. Nyan met separately with the senior and general staff of NPHIL. He took the opportunity to commend them for their continued sacrificial services to Liberia and its people, acknowledging their vital role in maintaining the country’s public health. Dr. Nyan called for collective efforts to rebrand the institution and elevate its performance. “This is a moment for all of us to work together, to build a stronger NPHIL, and take it to the next level,” he stated.
The series of meetings continued today, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in Charlesville, Margibi County. This engagement will culminate tomorrow, Friday, August 16, 2024, when Dr. Nyan is expected to meet with key partners of NPHIL. These meetings reflect his approach to fostering collaboration and ensuring a smooth transition as he prepares to take the helm at NPHIL.
