ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, is currently in Abuja, Nigeria, representing Liberia at the ECOWAS-WAHO Meeting of National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) Director Generals.
Dr. Nyan shared his participation in the regional gathering through a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday, February 20, 2025. He expressed his enthusiasm about Liberia’s engagement in discussions aimed at strengthening public health initiatives across West Africa.
“For the formation of the Technical Advisory Council (TAC) of the ECOWAS Regional Center for Surveillance and Disease Control (RCSDC),” Dr. Nyan stated, highlighting the key agenda of the meeting. He further emphasized the importance of regional collaboration in tackling disease surveillance and outbreak response.
The meeting brings together public health leaders from across the ECOWAS region to deliberate on enhancing epidemic surveillance, strengthening laboratory functions, and improving response mechanisms to public health threats, including Mpox, Lassa fever, and measles.
Dr. Nyan’s participation emphasizes Liberia’s commitment to regional cooperation in public health and disease prevention efforts. The NPHIL Director General’s presence at the Abuja meeting aligns with ongoing efforts by the Liberian government to bolster the country’s disease response strategies and reinforce its role in West Africa’s public health scene.
