FAKE FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP SCAM LINKED TO VP KOUNG EXPOSED, PUBLIC WARNED

MONROVIA – The Office of Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung has raised alarm over a fraudulent scheme in which individuals are falsely claiming affiliation with the Vice President in order to extort money from unsuspecting Liberians under the guise of offering foreign scholarships.

In a statement released Wednesday, the Vice President’s Office made it categorically clear that Hon. Koung has not authorized, endorsed, or is in any way involved with any individual or organization soliciting funds for educational opportunities abroad. The office emphasized that the Vice President remains committed to promoting legitimate youth empowerment and education through lawful and transparent government programs.

“These schemes are criminal in nature and designed to deceive and exploit members of the public,” the statement warned.

The Vice President’s Office urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any individual or group attempting to solicit money using his name. Citizens are encouraged to file complaints with the Liberia National Police or other appropriate law enforcement agencies.

The Vice President strongly condemned the scam and assured the public that those found culpable would face the full weight of the law. The statement also acknowledged the Liberia National Police for their prompt response and confirmed that an active investigation is underway.

This warning comes amid increasing reports of scams targeting young people hoping to pursue studies abroad. Officials say such fraudulent activity not only damages public trust but also undermines genuine development efforts in Liberia’s education sector.

The Vice President’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to integrity, good governance, and youth empowerment, urging the public to seek information about educational programs only through verified, government-sanctioned channels.
