LIBERIA – Liberia’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) has indicted the Managing Director of the Mutual Benefits Assurance (MDA), for alleged suspicious money laundering activities.
Liberian investigative journalist, Charles Yates, managed to obtain what appears to be a report from the FIU on the suspicious money laundering activities of the General Manager of Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC, the Nigerian Kehinde Efevoggor.
Journalist Yates revealed that the syndicate was unearthed by investigators of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Liberia.
Details of the investigation are still coming in, but the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MBA, Prof. Dew Mayson has confirmed the dismissal of the MD.
In a short communication sent to Integrity Watch Newspaper Publisher Mr. Yates, Professor Mayson confirmed that the MD has since been dismissed.
Mayson: “I hereby confirm that Ms. Kehinde Efevoggor was dismissed from the position of Managing Director of MUTUAL BENEFITS LIB. on 13th October 2022”, the Journalist quoted the Liberian politician and businessman as saying.
Madam Efevoggor was said to be contacted by the Liberian journalist on her alleged dismissal; but simply said the matter is at the Labor Ministry.
“It is a breach of the law to discuss a matter in court with outside parties, especially as a concerned party… you should know this- you welcome to attend the session if you wish to know more about the matter” she is quoted by the Journalist as saying.
The Nigerian had said she was earlier cleared by the FIU following an additional investigation. But professor Mayson in a follow-up telephone call to the Journalist on the issue of the MD being cleared by the FIU said the MD has been involved with so many “dubious activities” at the company and that she has been recalled to head office in Nigeria.
Prof. Mayson is also quoted by the report as indicating that he is not aware of where the former MD took her FIU clearance from.
Smart News Liberia managed to contact the communication officer of FIU who said he was contacting his bosses to get back to us.
