GOL EXPRESSES CONCERN FOLLOWING REPORTS OF FORMER VICE PRESIDENT BOAKAI’S ILL HEALTH

Date:

LIBERIA – The Government of Liberia has expressed concern following reports of the ill health of former Vice President and Standard Bearer of former ruling Unity Party (UP) Joseph N. Boakai, who is said to have checked into a local hospital this week.

In a press statement issued today, the government stated that as a statesman and political leader of a national party, his well-being is of utmost interest to the country.

“In view of the foregoing, the government has initiated contacts with family members of the former Vice President and offered to help in whatever way they deem necessary, while also wishing him a speedy recovery,” the government indicated.

Recently, the Unity Party issued a statement informing the public that on Sunday, 8, January, the UP Standard Bearer checked into a local hospital in Monrovia, for precautionary observation after he felt a light fever.

“The UP informs the public that Amb. Boakai is fine and in good health,” the statement indicated.

Multiple Unity Party sources have also confirmed that JNB is now feeling better and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.

The UP statement issued by its National Secretariat noted that the party was delighted that its Standard Bearer sought medical attention at a hospital in Liberia, unlike officials of the CDC-led government, who the Unity Party accused of being constantly flown on the next available flight to foreign hospitals.

Most recently, it can be recalled, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, a ranking member of the ruling party CDC, Samuel Tweah, was reportedly flown to Turkey for advanced medical treatment, following a car accident involving him, his wife, and two others on the Lofa – Bong Counties highway.

The Unity Party quoting its Standard Bearer in the statement added that Ambassador Boakai stated that he wants to continue seeking medical attention in Liberia, adding that he will do everything possible when he becomes president of the country and that during his administration, he will make hospitals in the nation what he called destination of choice for all classes of Liberians seeking medical attention.

The UP emphasized that it is deeply gratified by the myriad of concerns from its partisans, well-wishers, and supporters alike regarding the health condition of Joe Boakai.

Meanwhile, the party is calling on the general public to remain hopeful of a better agenda for Liberia’s transformation guided by the able leadership of its Standard Bearer, Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
